Lumileds 3DLED Tail-light Demonstrator ‘23
A tail-light demonstrator, where the front black bezel and light-exit window represent what will be visible (in this particular design set-up) when integrated in car-surfacing. The parts at the back show form-follows-function of f.e. the light-reflector and mounting of various components and segments. The slanted base and bracket serve to mount and display the demo on tabletops at events.
Developed in collaboration with the Lumileds’ application / innovation team, to showcase the Luxeon 3D LED technology design, functioning potential & application possibilities, when used as tail light. For example of use in a front DRL / position light, please view the Luxeon demonstrator ‘21 and the Lumileds website.
The design of 3D LED path(s) is such that it showcases a number of key characteristics of the mechanical & optical flexibility and with it new design possibilities, e.g.: the torque & bend flexibility enabling freeform styling, varying light-signature thickness from thin to wide, narrow bend radius, torrque / flex-& bend-abilities in x-y-z-directions, seamless continuity & optical homogeneity of connected segments, to name a few, in addition to core-features such as:
Extremely compact form enables integration into previously inaccessible areas of the car body and bridging structures instead of closed large volumes.
Smart optical design and universally bendable light source can adapt to a wide variety of 3D shapes while maintaining a consistent, homogeneous appearance from any angle.
Segmented animation provides a simple solution for dynamic lighting scenarios.
Easy handling and assembly due to integrated thermal, mechanical, and optical design.

Freeform design flexibilty with the Luxeon 3DLED flexibility characteristics
Here the torqueing flexibility of the Luxeon 3DLED is shown, that enables convex-concave transitions, and 3D surfacing. Combined with options to vary low or high light-signature, intriguing shapes & flows can be created to emphasize the vehicles design features for example.
